A beginner scrapbooking tip I would give anyone is to keep a journal of events and include them in your digital scrapbooks. The journal entries are one of the most important parts of scrapbooking, and it is often overlooked.
We get so excited creating these amazing pages, that sometimes we forget the little details behind the pictures. My first few scrapbooks were full of photos, and hardly any descriptions. Then later as I looked back through them, I found myself trying to remember why I thought a particular photo was so cherished. So, I began journaling throughout the year and I’ve found myself looking back over my entries and thinking, “I never thought I’d forget that, and I DID! I’m so glad I wrote it down!” It has transformed my digital scrapbooks from books full of photos to books full of memories.
So, if you’re a beginner to scrapbooking and want to start journaling, how do you go about it?
I’ve found that keeping a sheet of paper by my computer is the easiest for me. Then when something memorable happens, I write down a quick sentence or two about it. It has helped my digital scrapbooks become more than just scrapbooks. They are now some of my most cherished possessions. Others keep a more traditional journal and write daily/weekly entries. My grandmother keeps a calendar and every day writes down the days events.
However you do it, just make sure to do it! You’ll be amazed at how meaningful each page becomes!
